Finding Assets Near a Point of Interest (POI) in Perspio

Overview

Locating assets in proximity to a specific Point of Interest (POI)—such as a branch, customer site, or operational zone—is a common requirement in asset management. Perspio provides robust tools to facilitate this through its Proximity Search and Geofences modules. This guide outlines how to utilize these features effectively to identify assets near a POI.

Method 1: Using Proximity Search

The Proximity Search feature allows users to find assets within a defined radius of a specific location, either in real-time or historically.

Steps:

  1. Access the Search Module:

    • Log in to your Perspio account.

    • Navigate to the Search module from the main dashboard.

  2. Initiate a Proximity Search:

    • Select Proximity Search.

    • Choose between Live (current asset locations) or Historical (past asset locations) search, depending on your needs.

  3. Define the POI:

    • By Address or Coordinates:

      • Enter the specific address or latitude and longitude coordinates of the POI into the search field.

      • The map will centre on the specified location.

    • By Map Interaction:

      • Use the map interface to manually navigate to the desired location.

      • Click on the map to set the centreter point of your search area.

  4. Set the Search Radius:

    • Adjust the radius slider to define the area around the POI you wish to search.

    • The radius can typically be set in meters or kilometres, depending on your requirements.

  5. Execute the Search:

    • Click the Search or Run button to execute the proximity search.

    • The system will display a list of assets located within the defined radius of the POI.

  6. Analyse and Utilize Results:

    • Review the list of assets returned by the search.

    • Click on individual assets to view more detailed information, such as asset ID, status, and last known location.

    • Use the results for operational decision-making, such as dispatching the nearest asset to a job site or analysing asset distribution.

Method 2: Using Geofences for Branches and Customer Sites

The Geofences module enables users to define virtual boundaries around specific geographic areas, such as branches or customer sites, and monitor asset interactions with these zones.

Steps:

  1. Access the Geofences Module:

    • Navigate to the Geofences module within Perspio.

  2. Create a Geofence:

    • Click on Add Geofence.

    • Define the geofence by drawing it on the map or by uploading a KML file.

    • Assign a name and description that clearly identifies the POI (e.g., "Sydney Branch" or "Customer Site A").

  3. Assign Assets to the Geofence:

    • Link relevant assets to the geofence to monitor their interactions with the defined area.

  4. Monitor Asset Interactions:

    • Use the system to track when assets enter or exit the geofenced area.

    • Set up alerts or workflows to respond to these events as needed.

Combining Proximity Search and Geofences

For comprehensive monitoring, users can combine both methods:

  • Use Proximity Search for ad-hoc queries to find assets near a POI at a specific time.

  • Use Geofences for continuous monitoring and automated alerts when assets interact with defined zones.

Additional Tips

  • Saving Searches: If you frequently search for assets near the same POI, consider saving the search parameters for quick access in the future.

  • Exporting Data: Search results can be exported in various formats (e.g., CSV, Excel) for reporting or further analysis.

  • Integration with Workflows: Both Proximity Search results and Geofence events can be integrated into automated workflows for tasks such as maintenance scheduling or alert generation.

Conclusion

By leveraging Perspio's Proximity Search and Geofences modules, users can effectively locate and monitor assets near specific Points of Interest, enhancing operational efficiency and decision-making.
