Time in Geofence Menu

The Time in Geofences menu within the Asset Inspector allows users to monitor how long a tracked asset has remained inside geofenced or regional boundaries. This view helps users understand asset movement patterns and dwell times, which is particularly useful for operational insights, site compliance, and resource utilisation.

Overview

This screen is split into two tabs:

  • Geofences: Displays time spent inside custom geofences (e.g. customer sites or depots).

  • Regions: Displays time spent inside defined regional boundaries (e.g. states, countries, operational zones).

Both tabs present the same structure and controls, tailored to the corresponding zone type.

Screen Controls

At the top of the screen, users can filter and navigate the dataset using the following options:

  • Date Selector (Calendar Picker): Choose the date of interest manually or navigate using the arrow buttons to cycle between days.

  • Today Button: Returns the view to the current day.

  • D / W / M Toggle: Switches between Daily, Weekly, and Monthly views (subject to available data).

  • Summary / Events Toggle:

    • Summary view displays the cumulative dwell time for each zone.

    • Events view shows individual entry/exit logs, when available.

Geofences Tab

Under the Geofences tab, each active geofence is listed along with the total time the asset remained within it for the selected period. The following data is presented:

  • Geofence Name: Shown with a zone type label (e.g. Customer Site).

  • Zone ID: Unique identifier for reference.

  • Time Spent: Total dwell time (e.g. 14 hours, 46 minutes).

  • Session Count: Number of unique entries recorded.

  • Progress Bar: Visually indicates the percentage of total time spent in each geofence.

  • Time Distribution Graph: A bar chart below the summary visualises when during the selected day the asset was inside the geofence.

This helps identify site utilisation and idle time patterns.

Regions Tab

The Regions tab functions identically but refers to broader geographic areas. These may represent operational zones like states or districts. The data shown includes:

  • Region Name (e.g. New South Wales)

  • Region ID

  • Total Dwell Time

  • Session Count

  • Graphical Time Distribution

This view is useful for understanding how long assets remain within regulatory or reporting jurisdictions.

Notes

  • Time is calculated based on telemetry position updates and asset movement.

  • If multiple zones overlap, the system will attribute time based on the most specific match (i.e. geofence over region).

  • Events and session counts depend on the device’s location reporting frequency and GPS accuracy.
