Sound Summary Report
Understand and interpret summarised sound readings for environmental monitoring, compliance, and operational analysis.
Overview
The Sound Summary report provides a consolidated breakdown of sound‑level readings captured from one or more sound‑monitoring assets across a selected period. Unlike single‑event or raw telemetry reports, the Sound Summary aggregates readings into daily or hourly groups, displaying the minimum, maximum, average, and total range for the chosen sound property.
This report is designed to give users clear visibility over environmental noise patterns, enabling monitoring of compliance obligations, identification of noise anomalies, and comparison of different areas or sensor locations. Each row in the report represents a summarised measurement interval derived from the selected signal type (e.g., LA, LAEQ, or LAFMax).
This report is particularly useful for venue operators, facilities teams, compliance officers, and environmental managers who require structured insights into noise trends across an extended period.
Report Structure
The generated report includes the following data columns:
| Column Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Asset Id | The identification number of the sound sensor reporting data. |
| Asset Name | The name assigned to the sound‑monitoring asset (e.g., Office Sound, Courts Sound). |
| Date | The date corresponding to the summarised sound readings. |
| Signal | The type of sound measurement selected (LA, LAEQ, or LAFMax), based on real sensor output. |
| Min | The minimum sound level recorded during the period. Useful for identifying quiet baselines. |
| Max | The maximum sound level recorded. Highlights peak noise events or disturbances. |
| Avg | The average sound reading across the period. Often used for compliance or trend analysis. |
| Range | The calculated range expressed as “Min – Max,” summarising the variability in noise levels. |
At the bottom of the report, a generation timestamp confirms when the report was produced, including the local timezone used for calculation and display.
How to Generate the Report
-
Navigate to Reports → Asset Telemetry → Sound Summary.
-
Select the Scope (Relative or Range) and choose the Time Period (e.g., Today, This Week, This Month).
-
Select Assets (one, multiple, or all sound-monitoring assets).
-
Choose Group By (By Day or By Hour).
-
Choose the Property (LA, LAEQ, or LAFMax).
-
Click Run Report.
Once generated, results display in a table and can be exported to PDF, PDF/A, XLSX or CSV.
Applicability and Use Cases
The Sound Summary report is widely used across facilities, entertainment venues, community spaces, and environmental monitoring applications. Key use cases include:
1. Environmental Compliance Monitoring
Ensures sound levels remain within regulatory limits by providing structured minimum, maximum, and average readings.
2. Venue & Facility Noise Management
Tracks daily or hourly noise levels in offices, courts, clubs, and entertainment areas, helping operators maintain safe and comfortable environments.
3. Incident Analysis
High “Max” values can help identify the timing of loud events, enabling targeted reviews or operational adjustments.
4. Operational Performance Monitoring
Assists facility managers in evaluating noise trends linked to operational hours, events, crowd volumes, or external factors.
5. Long‑Term Noise Trend Tracking
Grouped summaries make it easy to analyse patterns across weeks or months for planning, reporting, and compliance assessments.
Interpreting the Data
-
Consistent Average Levels
Suggest stable sound environments or predictable operational activity. -
Large Min–Max Ranges
May indicate intermittent loud events or environmental disruptions. -
Recurring Peaks
Useful for identifying event‑driven noise patterns (sports, machinery, construction, large gatherings). -
Low Min with High Max
Shows highly variable environments requiring further investigation or monitoring adjustments. -
Differences Between LA / LAEQ / LAFMax
Can highlight the type of noise being measured — instantaneous vs. averaged vs. peak.
Summary
The Sound Summary report is a critical environmental monitoring tool for organisations that manage noise levels across multiple locations. By aggregating sound readings into clear minimum, maximum, average, and range values, the report provides actionable insights into compliance management, operational trends, and environmental behaviour. It delivers a structured, high‑visibility view of sound performance, ensuring operators and managers can maintain safe, compliant, and optimised environments.
