Road Toll Detailed

Understand and evaluate toll charge data for operational cost monitoring and reconciliation.

Overview

The Road Toll Detailed report provides a complete breakdown of toll charges incurred by selected fleet assets over a defined reporting period. It includes timestamps, toll gate names, state identifiers, and the charge amount associated with each crossing.

This report is designed to help users track road toll expenses, validate fleet billing, and reconcile operational travel costs across vehicles and routes. Each row in the report represents a distinct toll event captured via integrated telemetry or connected data feeds, ensuring that both direct and shared toll costs are accounted for.

This report is particularly useful for businesses operating in metro areas with toll infrastructure, allowing fleet operators and finance teams to identify high-expense routes, driver behaviours contributing to costs, and toll expenditure trends by asset.

Report Structure

The generated report includes the following data columns:

Column Name Description
Timestamp The date and time when the toll event occurred. This is when the asset passed through the tolling point.
Toll Gate The name or location of the toll point. Includes road or bridge name and directional indicators.
State The regional tolling authority or state-level network associated with the toll (e.g., NSW CCT or NSW SHB).
Charge The monetary amount (in AUD) billed to the asset for that specific toll event. Total charges are displayed at the bottom.

A summary TOTAL line is provided at the bottom of the report to reflect cumulative toll costs across all events and selected assets during the reporting period.

At the bottom of the report, a generation timestamp indicates when the report was produced, including the local time zone for auditing purposes.

How to Generate the Report

  1. Navigate to Reports → Asset Telemetry → Road Toll Detailed.

  2. Select the Scope (Relative or Range) and define the Time Period (e.g., This Quarter, Last 30 Days).

  3. Choose one or more Assets from the asset selector dropdown.

  4. Click Run Report.

  5. Once generated, the toll data will appear in a formatted table and can be exported to PDF, PDF/A, XLSX or CSV.

Applicability and Use Cases

The Road Toll Detailed report has wide utility for operations, finance, and compliance teams:

1. Fleet Cost Tracking

Gives finance managers clear insights into toll-related operational expenses by vehicle, time period, and travel corridor.

2. Route Cost Analysis

Enables identification of cost-heavy routes and provides supporting data for evaluating alternate paths or scheduling adjustments.

3. Billing Verification

Facilitates reconciliation of fleet toll statements from external tolling providers (e.g., Linkt) with internal asset usage records.

4. Customer Invoicing

Where toll charges are passed through to clients, this report provides traceable, timestamped evidence for inclusion in job billing.

5. Budgeting and Forecasting

Supports monthly or quarterly expenditure planning by visualising toll trends across assets and networks.

Interpreting the Data

  • High-frequency tolls may indicate repeated route use or potential inefficiencies.

  • Unexpected toll locations can be cross-verified with trip data to identify misrouting or unauthorised travel.

  • Toll peaks can be compared with delivery schedules to explore optimisation opportunities.

Summary

The Road Toll Detailed report is a critical tool for any organisation aiming to understand and manage road toll expenses. With its structured timestamped view, it provides financial clarity, audit readiness, and data-driven insight into route planning, driver compliance, and fleet optimisation.
