# Platform Usage Report
## Monitor system usage trends for operational, support, and billing visibility.
#### **Overview**
The **Platform Usage** **Report** offers a daily breakdown of key platform activity metrics across a tenant, helping administrators and billing managers monitor the overall engagement with the system. This includes user logins, asset and device counts, dashboards, rules, and object configurations like geofences and groups.
Each row represents a daily snapshot and captures usage statistics across a wide range of operational features in Perspio. This report is especially useful for identifying patterns in system adoption, usage peaks, resource provisioning, and overall tenant activity.

#### **Report Structure**
The generated report includes the following data columns:
| Column Name | Description |
| --- | --- |
| **Date** | The specific calendar day for which the usage metrics were collected. |
| **Assets** | Total number of assets configured in the platform on that day. |
| **Devices** | Number of active devices linked to assets. |
| **DAD** | Daily Active Devices – number of unique devices that transmitted data. |
| **MAD** | Monthly Active Devices – number of unique devices active in the current month. |
| **Users** | Total number of users in the tenant. |
| **DAU** | Daily Active Users – number of users who logged in or performed actions that day. |
| **MAU** | Monthly Active Users – users active during the current month. |
| **Rules** | Number of rules configured in the platform (e.g., alerts, automations). |
| **Geofences** | Count of geofences created in the tenant. |
| **Dashboards** | Number of dashboards present within the tenant. |
| **Asset Groups** | Total number of asset groups used for filtering and access control. |
| **Security Groups** | Count of security groups defining user access levels. |
At the bottom of the report, a timestamp indicates when the report was generated, including the time zone for context.

#### **How to Generate the Report**
1. Navigate to **Reports → Billing → Platform Usage**.
2. Use the **Filter Range** control to choose your desired time period (e.g. Last Month, Last 3 Months).
3. Select the **View** frequency (Daily or Monthly).
4. Click **Run Report** to generate the usage table.
5. Once rendered, results can be downloaded in **PDF, PDF/A, XLSX** or **CSV** format.

The Platform Usage report is particularly valuable for the following use cases:
1. **Usage Monitoring Across Tenants**
Easily track which tenants are consistently active, showing signs of engagement or inactivity. Useful for internal support teams or partners managing multiple customers.
2. **Adoption and Onboarding Insight**
DAU, MAU, and dashboard/geofence counts help Customer Success and Product teams understand how deeply a tenant is engaging with the platform features.
3. **Billing and Consumption Verification**
Monthly Active Devices and Rules can be used to validate license tiers, platform billing, or pricing based on device usage.
4. **Operational Audits and Growth Trends**
Track tenant growth over time in terms of assets, users, and dashboards. This supports long-term planning, upselling, and contract reviews.
5. **Security and Compliance Reviews**
Reviewing the number of security groups, user accounts, and DAU/MAU metrics allows administrators to validate access governance and identify dormant accounts.

#### **Interpreting the Data**
- **High DAU but low MAU** could indicate short bursts of activity or limited regular users.
- **Flatline in device counts** may point to integration issues or stalled onboarding.
- **Large asset/device counts but low dashboard/rule usage** may suggest underutilisation of analytics and automation features.
- **Sudden drops in DAD or DAU** could indicate system outages or device communication issues.
