Occupancy Summary Report

Monitor and analyse the number of people present in monitored facilities over time.

Overview

The Occupancy Summary report provides a high-level view of the total number of people within a monitored space over a selected time frame. It is designed primarily for facility management and compliance monitoring, using data from installed people-counting sensors to summarise how many individuals have entered or been present in a given location.

This report helps facility managers, building operators, and safety compliance officers track usage trends, identify peak traffic periods, and ensure that safe occupancy limits are observed. The report can be grouped by day or hour and supports different counting modes such as Occupants, Line 1 Delta, or Line 1 Total In—allowing flexible interpretation of foot traffic or crowding over time.

Each row in the report represents an aggregated count for a chosen time window (e.g., day or hour) and specific asset.

Report Structure

The generated report includes the following data columns:

Column Name Description
Date The calendar date (or hour) corresponding to the people count data. This is based on the selected grouping (By Day or By Hour).
Property Indicates the selected counting method or line used by the people counter device (e.g., line_1_total_in, occupants, or line_1_delta).
Max The maximum value recorded during that time period, representing the peak occupancy or inflow count. This may reflect the highest crowd level or the largest number of people entering during the interval.

At the bottom of the report, a timestamp confirms when the report was generated, including the local time zone for context.

How to Generate the Report

  1. Navigate to: Reports → Facility Management → Occupancy Summary

  2. In the top filters:

    • Scope: Select either Relative (e.g., This Week, This Month) or a fixed Range.

    • Assets: Choose the people counter device(s) you wish to report on.

    • Group By: Choose whether to view results By Day or By Hour.

    • Property: Select which occupancy property to report on:

      • Occupants: Current detected presence.

      • Line 1 Delta: Net change in movement through Line 1.

      • Line 1 Total In: Total inbound count through Line 1.

  3. Click Run Report.

  4. Once generated, the results are displayed in a structured table and can be exported to PDF, PDF/A, XLSX or CSV.

Applicability and Use Cases

The Occupancy Summary report is ideal for real-time analytics, historical audits, and operational planning in venues, buildings, or any space monitored with people-counting devices.

1. Facility Usage Insights

Track trends of daily or hourly visitation. This enables better resource allocation and staff scheduling in high-traffic zones such as community halls, gyms, or waiting areas.

2. Capacity Management and Safety Compliance

Monitor maximum occupancy during any time period to validate whether safety limits were respected during peak activity hours.

3. Cleaning and Maintenance Optimisation

Use occupancy data to drive time-based cleaning operations (e.g., trigger cleaning after X visits or when foot traffic crosses a threshold).

4. Energy and HVAC Efficiency

Reduce energy usage in unoccupied rooms by aligning HVAC and lighting schedules with actual occupancy trends.

5. Visitor Behaviour Analysis

Understand how visitor flows vary across days and hours, helping with marketing, signage, or layout improvements.

Interpreting the Data

  • High Max values indicate peak traffic periods and may require operational attention.

  • Consistent low numbers may suggest under-utilised space or faulty sensor placement.

  • Unexpected spikes could reflect events, errors, or anomalies worth investigating.

  • Grouping By Hour is useful for identifying rush hours, while By Day provides daily usage patterns.

Summary

The Occupancy Summary report delivers an essential view of how spaces are being used, by consolidating data from people counters across selected periods. Whether ensuring safety compliance, improving space efficiency, or analysing behavioural trends, this report is a powerful tool for any organisation managing people flow within monitored environments.
