Installing a Geotab GO Focus Plus
This article provides step-by-step guidance for physically installing and commissioning a Geotab GO Focus Plus telematics device on a vehicle or asset. It covers mounting considerations, wiring and connectivity, device commissioning, and verification of proper data reporting.
Overview
The GO Focus Plus (dual-facing) are AI-powered dash cameras that connect to your existing Geotab GO device via the IOX expansion port.
Prerequisites
- A Geotab GO9 (or newer) device installed in the vehicle.
- The Geotab Video App (Android / iPhone) installed on a mobile device for calibration.
- The camera's Serial Number (found on the box or device).
- Alcohol cleaning wipes and the provided locking/adjustment tool.
Video Installation Guide:
Installation Steps
1. Mounting the Bracket
- Locate: Select a spot on the windshield behind the rear-view mirror. Ensure it is within the wiper's sweep zone and does not block the driver's line of sight.
- Clean: Use an alcohol wipe to thoroughly clean and dry the glass surface.
- Attach: Loosen the bracket pivot, remove the adhesive backing, and press the bracket firmly to the glass for 30 seconds.
2. Hardware Connection
- Insert: Slide the GO Focus unit into the mounted bracket and secure it using the locking tool.
- Connect: Plug the camera cable into the IOX port on the Geotab GO device. Use a zip tie to secure the connection.
- Cable Management: Route the cable behind the headliner and down the A-pillar (ensure it is behind any airbags).
3. Power & Activation
- Ensure the GO device is firmly plugged into the vehicle's OBDII port.
- Start the vehicle engine. The camera will emit an audible beep.
- LED Indicator: A flashing blue LED indicates activation or a firmware update is in progress. Wait for a solid blue LED to confirm it is ready.
Calibration & Verification
To ensure the AI correctly detects events, you must calibrate the camera angles using the Geotab Video App:
- Sync: Open the app and scan the camera's serial number.
- Align: Use the live feed to adjust the lens.
- Road-facing: Align the horizon with the blue guide line.
- Driver-facing: Ensure the driver's head is cantered within the on-screen box.
- Perspio Verification: Once the hardware is active, verification is automated. All captured video events will seamlessly be included in the GO9 asset profile within Perspio. You do not need to manually link the camera; Perspio’s Data Integration automatically maps the camera feed to the corresponding vehicle asset.
Troubleshooting
- No Power: Check the IOX connection and ensure the GO device has three solid lights (Red, Green, Blue).
- Pairing Failed: Ensure the vehicle has a clear view of the sky for GPS/Cellular sync during initial setup.
- Missing Events: Confirm the asset is correctly registered in the Perspio Device Registry.
