I can't find an Asset in Perspio that is right in front of me.

If you're unable to locate an asset in Perspio that is physically present, several factors could be contributing to this issue. This guide provides a comprehensive checklist to help you identify and resolve the problem.

By systematically following these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the issue preventing the asset from appearing in Perspio.

1. Verify Physical Device Status

Before proceeding with software checks, ensure the asset's tracking device is operational:

  • Device Installation: Confirm that a tracking device is installed on the asset.

  • Power Supply: Ensure the device is receiving power. If the asset has a battery isolator, verify that it is turned on.

  • Status Indicators: Check for active status lights on the device, indicating proper functionality.

  • Signal Reception: Make sure the device has adequate GPS and cellular signal strength.

If any of these checks fail, address the hardware issue before proceeding.

2. Check if the Asset is Hidden in the GUI

Assets can be hidden from the user interface, making them unsearchable in the main view. To verify:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Inventory.

  2. Click on the Asset Disabled tab.

  3. Search for the asset by name or serial number.

  4. If the asset appears, click on it to open its configuration.

  5. Locate the Show in GUI option and set it to TRUE.

  6. Save the changes.

This action will make the asset visible in the main Assets module.

3. Confirm Device Connectivity

  • Telemetry Status: If the asset is equipped with a telemetry device, ensure it's powered on and transmitting data. A lack of recent data could indicate connectivity issues.

  • Last Communication: In the asset's Snapshot page, check the timestamp of the last received data. If it's outdated, the device may be offline or malfunctioning.

4. Inspect Service Flags

Service Flags control various functionalities for assets. To ensure the asset is active:

  1. Navigate to the Assets module.

  2. Select the asset.

  3. Click on Configuration.

  4. Under Service Flags, verify that essential flags like Data Ingestion and Workflows are enabled.

5. Review User Permissions

  • Security Group Restrictions: Your user account might be part of a Security Group that doesn't have access to the asset. Contact your system administrator to verify and adjust permissions if necessary.

6. Examine Asset Filters

  • Active Filters: In the Assets module, check if any filters are applied that might exclude the asset from view. Clear all filters to ensure a comprehensive asset list.

7. Validate Asset Location

  • Manual Location Override: If the asset lacks GPS, its location might be manually set. To check:

    1. Go to the Assets module.

    2. Select the asset.

    3. Click on Configuration.

    4. Under Static Location, ensure the coordinates are accurate.

8. Assess Asset Group Membership

  • Asset Groups: The asset might be part of a group that is not currently visible or accessible to you. Verify the asset's group memberships and ensure you have access to those groups.

9. Contact Support

If after performing these checks the asset remains untraceable, please contact the Perspio Support Team for further assistance.

Provide them with the asset's details, such as name, serial number, and any other identifying information to expedite the troubleshooting process.
