Devices
The Devices tab within the Asset Configuration menu is where telemetry devices are added, removed, or reviewed for each asset. This tab is essential for ensuring that your assets are correctly linked to physical devices that transmit data such as GPS location, odometer, temperature, fuel levels, and other telematics information.
Overview
Each asset in Perspio can have one or more devices associated with it. This tab provides a visual overview of all attached devices, their current status (e.g. Active or Inactive), and their last communication timestamp.
Viewing Devices
In this tab, devices are displayed as tiles, each showing:
-
Device ID (serial number or unique identifier)
-
Status (e.g., Active, Inactive)
-
Last Activity (how long ago the device last communicated with Perspio)
Clicking on a device tile opens its Device Overview, where you can view:
-
Device Type and Serial
-
Assigned SIM and Current State Data
-
Asset Schema
-
Asset Mapping
-
Device health and history
This overview provides complete telemetry context at the asset level.
Adding a Device
To add a new device:
-
Click the “+” tile.
-
Search for the device by ID, name, or serial number.
-
Select the desired device from the list.
-
Confirm the link to the asset.
Only unassigned (available) devices will be listed for selection. Once assigned, the device will begin feeding telemetry data to the asset, depending on the data points it supports. More information on this article.
Removing a Device
To remove a device:
-
Locate the device tile.
-
Click the red bin icon (🗑️) in the upper right corner of the tile.
-
Confirm the deletion when prompted.
Removing a device disassociates it from the asset but does not delete the device from your tenant.
IMPORTANT: Removing a device will interrupt data ingestion for the asset unless another telemetry source is available (e.g., secondary device or data feed from ERP).
Why It Matters
Linking the correct telemetry device to an asset ensures accurate:
-
GPS tracking and real-time monitoring
-
Run hours and odometer calculations
-
Workflow triggers and alerts
-
Historical data and analytics
This is the core of Perspio's data pipeline and should be maintained accurately for all operational assets.
