Device Health Tab

The Health Tab within the Device Configuration view provideT critical diagnostic and telemetry validation data for the device connected to an asset. It helps administrators and support teams assess if the device is communicating as expected, verify connectivity, and identify issues affecting data accuracy or completeness.

Overview

The Health Tab is divided into two main sections:

1. Device Status

This section displays real-time and historical indicators of the device’s operational state.

Field Description
Hub Enqueued Time Utc Timestamp for when the most recent data packet was queued for processing by the data platform.
Last Communicated Utc Timestamp of the most recent successful communication between the device and the platform.
Geotab Telemetry Type Displays the detected telemetry type. May show “not set” if the system hasn’t classified the device yet.
Battery Voltage Current voltage reading from the vehicle's battery.
Standard Harness Detected Indicates if a supported and compatible harness is correctly connected.
Engine Data Active Reflects whether engine data is currently being received.
M SCAN125k Protocol Denotes whether this protocol is active, used to read engine data from the vehicle CAN bus.
Intelligent Harness Type Shows the number or classification of the intelligent harness in use, if applicable.
ioxcan Displays the status of the IOX CAN interface, if used (e.g., for additional modules or third-party sensors).
IOXCAN500k Protocol Status of another CAN protocol used for specific high-speed communication with vehicle components.
Cellular Modem Signal Strength Current mobile signal strength for the modem in the device. Useful for diagnosing connectivity.
Engine OBD2 PIDCount Number of diagnostic parameters currently being reported via OBD-II.
Didcom TPM Indicates if the Didcom Tire Pressure Monitoring integration is active.

Each row may be accompanied by a green or red status icon:

  • Green dot: Value or status is OK.

  • Red dot: Indicates a potential issue or inactive status.

2. Device Info

This section outlines core information used to identify the physical device installed on the asset.

Field Description
Vendor Name Name of the device manufacturer or integration provider (e.g., Geotab GO).
Device Id Unique identifier assigned to the device (may be “not set” if not reported).
Serial Manufacturer's serial number (optional).
Device Type Id Internal Perspio ID representing the type of hardware.
Pipeline Id Identifier used to trace the ingestion pipeline for data into Perspio.
Created Date Date the device entry was created in the system.
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) VIN detected from the vehicle to help match or confirm the device's association with the asset.

Use Cases

  • Troubleshooting Telemetry Issues: If an asset is not showing updates or missing critical data, the Health tab is the first place to check. Look for outdated communication timestamps, missing battery voltage, or red indicators for protocols.

  • Verification After Installation: When installing or re-installing a device, use this tab to verify harness detection, data flow, and signal strength.

  • Diagnostic Reporting: Helps support teams narrow down the root cause of irregularities (e.g., no engine speed reported may be linked to unsupported protocols or bad harness).

  • Device Validation for Compliance: Some configurations (like Engine Data Active and Battery Voltage) are essential for compliance reporting or maintenance tracking.

Best Practices

  • Regularly review the Health Tab when onboarding a new device to ensure everything is correctly configured.

  • Investigate any red indicators or “not set” fields immediately.

  • Cross-reference timestamps with message frequency and asset usage data.

  • If VIN is not populated, confirm that the harness supports VIN passthrough.
