Custom Counters

The Custom Counters tab in the Configuration menu allows users to assign and track up to three custom counter metrics per asset. These counters are especially valuable when assets have operational characteristics or components that require tracking beyond standard telemetry or computed values.

Custom Counter Mapping

This section enables the user to map available custom counters to an asset:

  • Counter 1 / Counter 2 / Counter 3
Each dropdown allows the user to select from a predefined list of custom counters created within the tenant. Once mapped, these counters begin displaying readings from their associated logic or telemetry source.

Example: Counter 1 is mapped to Door Open Monitor, which may track how many times the trailer door has been open during a day.

The mapping for Custom Counter is made through Profiles. To create a Custom Counter Profile, refer to this article.

Custom Counter Values

Displays the most recent values for each assigned counter (in hours). These are read-only unless the user edits the values manually:

  • Counter 1 / Counter 2 / Counter 3
Shows the latest recorded value (e.g., cumulative hours for a tracked activity). This is useful for diagnostics, maintenance planning, and performance reporting.

IMPORTANT: Custom Counter values can be sourced from multiple systems, including telemetry devices, ERP integrations, and inspection software forms.

Editing Custom Counter Settings

To edit counter mappings or values:

  1. Click the Edit button in the appropriate section (either Mapping or Values).

  2. For Mapping, use the dropdown to assign or reassign the counter from the list of custom counters available in your tenant.

  3. For Values, enter or update the numeric value (in hours) for each counter as required.

  4. Click Save to confirm changes.

Changes apply instantly and are reflected in reporting and analytics modules where counters are used.

Why It Matters

The Custom Counters feature enhances operational visibility by enabling tracking of asset-specific activities or statuses not covered by default metrics. This is particularly useful for:

  • Refrigerated trailers (e.g., door open counter)

  • Specialised equipment (e.g., auxiliary engine hours)

  • Condition-based maintenance (e.g., hydraulic pump operation time)

When combined with schema-based rules and reporting, these counters give organisations greater flexibility and insight into the true utilisation of their fleet and equipment.
