Creating a Geofence

This article outlines the step-by-step process for creating a new geofence using the built-in Geofence Wizard.

Overview

The Geofences Module in Perspio enables users to define and manage specific geographical areas on the map to monitor asset behaviour, automate workflows, and trigger alerts based on asset location. These geofences are used across multiple modules such as Workflows, Dashboards, and Reports to deliver context-aware insights and automation.

Accessing the Geofences Module

From the Home Dashboard, click on the Geofences icon located in the vertical navigation menu on the left-hand side (ninth icon from the top). This will open the Geofences workspace, which displays all existing geofences in your tenant.

Click on Geofences

Step 1 – Click the “Add” Button

In the Geofences workspace, click the “Add” button on the top-right of the left-side panel. This opens the Geofence Wizard, a guided form to help you define a new area.

Click on highlight

Step 2 – Define Geofence Details

You will now see the Geofence Details Form. Complete the fields:

  • Name: A clear name for your geofence (e.g., "Inauro Australia Office").

  • Description: Add context for the geofence, such as address, purpose, or notes.

  • Type: Select the classification of the geofence from a dropdown:

    • Customer Site

    • Depot

    • Branch

    • Custom

    • Area

  • Active: Toggle ON to activate the geofence immediately.

  • Scope:

    • Global: Accepts all Assets in the tenant.

    • Group: Limited to specific Asset groups.

Click Next to proceed.

Step 3 – Draw the Geofence on the Map

You will now be able to draw the geofence boundary on the map.

Map Controls:

  • Search bar: Enter an address or coordinates to zoom to a specific location.

  • Drag Map: Move the map freely by clicking and dragging.

  • Polygon Tool: Use this to draw the boundary by clicking points on the map. Complete the shape by clicking the starting point.

  • Clear Shape: Resets the drawn area.

  • Zoom in/out and Map Style (bottom right) controls for better visibility.

Once you’ve finished drawing your geofence, click Create.

Step 4 – Confirmation and Navigation

After creating the geofence, you’ll see a confirmation screen indicating the new geofence was created successfully.

You’ll be offered the following navigation options:

  • Go to geofence list: Returns to the geofence workspace.

  • Go to geofence: Opens the detailed view of the geofence just created.

  • Add geofence: Starts a new geofence creation process.

Summary

Creating geofences allows you to leverage powerful location-based insights and automation features in Perspio. These geofences can be referenced across modules including Workflows, Reports, Dashboards, and more, helping to trigger notifications, visualise heatmaps, and measure operational KPIs.
