Calibration Menu

The Calibration tab allows you to control how key metrics like odometer, run hours, and fuel usage are calculated, displayed, and prioritised in Perspio. This section is critical for ensuring consistency across systems, especially when integrating telemetry, ERP, and computed values.

Perspio stores Odometer, Run Hours and Fuel data from three different sources:

  • Device: Data sourced directly from the telemetry device installed on the asset. This is considered the most reliable and accurate source.
  • Customer (ERP): Data provided via ERP system integrations or manually entered through inspection forms completed in inspection software.
  • Perspio: Data calculated by Perspio itself, using GPS location and ignition events to determine asset usage. These calculations are used when other sources are unavailable or incomplete.

IMPORTANT: Not all assets are capable of providing telemetry data directly through a device.

This can happen for several reasons:

  • Lack of Compatible Hardware: Some assets, particularly older models or non-powered equipment (e.g. trailers), may not support hard wired telemetry devices or may lack the necessary interface (e.g. CAN bus) to extract data.

  • Limited Installation Scope: In certain deployments, devices may be installed only for location tracking, without connections to the engine or fuel systems.

  • Device Restrictions: Some device types have limited capabilities and may not support specific data points, such as fuel level or engine hours.

In such cases, Perspio relies on ERP integrations or its own calculated logic to ensure continuity of data and support ongoing reporting, automation, and compliance requirements.

Odometer

This section determines how odometer readings are calculated and displayed.

  • Compute Odometer: Toggle to enable or disable Perspio’s run hour-based odometer computation.

  • Preferred Odometer Source: Choose the primary data source for the odometer:

    • Device (e.g., CAN bus),

    • Customer (ERP),

    • Perspio (calculated using rules and fallback data).

IMPORTANT: Only ERP and Perspio Odometer Sources can be manually edited for calibration purposes. Data in the Device Field can't be edited manually.

Each source value is displayed for visibility, helping you validate the data.

Run Hours

Defines how engine run hours are tracked, essential for servicing schedules and usage monitoring.

  • Compute Runhours: Enable or disable Perspio’s logic to calculate engine usage time.

  • Preferred Run Hours Source: Select the most reliable source for run hour tracking:

    • Device (default telemetry),

    • Customer (ERP),

    • Perspio (computed from event-based data).

IMPORTANT: Only ERP and Perspio Run Hours Sources can be manually edited for calibration purposes. Data in the Device Field can't be edited manually.

The displayed values make it easier to spot discrepancies and ensure data alignment between systems.

Fuel Used

Controls the measurement and calculation of fuel consumption—important for cost reporting and operational insights.

  • Compute Fuel Used: Toggle to activate Perspio’s fuel consumption tracking.

  • Preferred Fuel Used Source:

    • Device (if direct fuel readings are available),

    • Customer (ERP-fed data),

    • Perspio (inferred from usage patterns and operational data).

IMPORTANT: Only ERP and Perspio Fuel Sources can be manually edited for calibration purposes. Data in the Device Field can't be edited manually.

Fuel usage figures are shown from all available sources, providing a clear comparison.

Editing Odometer, Run Hours, and Fuel Used

The editing process for all three metrics—Odometer, Run Hours, and Fuel Used—follows the same pattern:

  1. Click "Edit" in the top right corner of the section you want to modify.

  2. Update the fields for:

    • Customer – input ERP-sourced value if available.

    • Perspio – optionally adjust Perspio’s computed value.

  3. Use the toggle to enable or disable computation for that metric.

  4. Select the Preferred Source from the options provided.

  5. Once your updates are complete, click Save to confirm your changes.

When installing a new device on an asset, make sure to calibrate the Perspio Run Hours and Odometer fields.

This step ensures that Perspio can increment values accurately from the correct starting point, maintaining alignment with real-world usage data.

Why it matters

The Calibration menu consolidates asset performance metrics from multiple systems into one interface. This empowers fleet managers, maintenance coordinators, and operational teams to:

  • Reconcile data discrepancies between telemetry and ERP sources.

  • Select the most accurate or relevant input for business-critical metrics.

  • Easily identify which source is currently prioritised for each metric.

  • Ensure consistency in reporting across platforms.

This visibility and control streamline reporting, improve data confidence, and support operational decision-making.
