Asset Activity

The Activity Menu provides a comprehensive timeline of an asset’s operational behaviour, capturing all relevant trips, events, and utilisation periods over selected date ranges. It is essential for understanding vehicle usage patterns, validating movements, identifying anomalies, and supporting compliance and diagnostics.

Overview and Key Uses

The Activity Module enables users to:

  • Track asset journeys and stops using GPS telemetry.

  • Analyse engine runtime and movement frequency.

  • Visualise location-based activities on interactive maps.

  • Access trip-level breakdowns with detailed event timelines.

It is particularly useful for:

  • Operational oversight (verifying usage)

  • Maintenance insights (engine hours and activity)

  • Incident investigation (geofence exit/entry, fault codes)

Navigation and Controls

  • Date Range Selector: Located at the top, allows switching between predefined and custom date ranges.

  • Filters: Toggle between:

    • All Activity

    • Detailed Trips

    • Events Only

  • Tabs:

    • Trips — visual and list view of trips.

    • Utilisation — bar chart view of engine usage by time of day.

Trips Tab

Summary Panel

  • Displays the total sessions, run time, distance travelled, and number of events in the selected period.

  • Each day collapses into sessions with aggregated stats.

Trip List

  • Provides a chronological list of all trips for the selected date range.

  • Includes:

    • Start and end times

    • Run time

    • Distance travelled

    • Event count

Map View

  • Interactive map showing GPS traces of each trip.

  • Key events like ignition on/off and faults are plotted.

  • Useful for visual verification of asset path and location-specific activity.

Event Timeline Panel (Right)

  • Lists all events chronologically with timestamps for the selected trip (e.g., ignition, fault codes, geofence crossings).

Utilisation Tab

This view presents a time-series visualisation of the asset's operational runtime:

  • Each blue bar segment represents an active period (engine running).

    • Activity can be filter by: All Activity, Driving, Transport, Motor and Working.
  • Time is shown along the X-axis, and each day appears as a row.

  • Allows users to quickly identify periods of use, idle time, or detect operational gaps.

This is valuable for:

  • Spotting usage trends and underutilisation.

  • Validating service logs against asset activity.

  • Identifying overnight or irregular usage patterns.

Real-World Applications

  • Fleet Compliance: Identify assets used outside approved schedules.

  • Driver Behaviour Review: Examine repeated fault codes or sharp trip patterns.

  • Maintenance Planning: Use run time patterns to predict upcoming servicing.

  • Incident Investigation: Trace exact movements during reported issues.
