Apply a Custom Counter to an Asset

Learn how to assign or update Custom Counters for an asset in Perspio Configuration, save the mapping, and calibrate the counter values so they increment correctly.

Overview

This article explains how to edit Custom Counters for an asset in Perspio Configuration from within the Inspector module.

Custom Counters allow you to track asset-specific metrics (for example, door-open events, auxiliary runtime, or other operational values not covered by default telemetry). Perspio supports mapping up to three custom counters to an asset.

This article covers:

  • How to open the asset configuration and edit counter mappings

  • How to save the selected counters

  • Why it is important to calibrate the counter value after mapping so the counter increments correctly

Important Before You Start (Creating the Custom Counter)

Before you can assign a Custom Counter to an asset, the counter/profile must already exist in your tenant.

Custom Counter profiles are created in Admin > Profiles, then later mapped to assets in Inspector/Configuration. The Perspio Help Centre notes that Custom Counter mapping is based on Profiles.

If the counter you need is not available in the dropdown:

  • Ask your Perspio administrator to create it first in Admin > Profiles (Custom Counter Profile), then return to the asset and map it here.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure:

  • You are logged in to Perspio

  • You have access to Inspector

  • You have permission to edit the selected asset’s configuration

  • The required Custom Counter profile has already been created in your tenant (if not, create it first)

How to Edit Counters in Perspio Configuration

Step 1: Open the Inspector module

From the Perspio main navigation, click Inspector.

What this screen does

  • Opens the Inspector workspace where you can select the asset or record to configure.

Screen controls

  • Inspector (menu item): Opens the Inspector module

Click on Inspector

Step 2: Open the relevant asset/record

Click the relevant record (example shown: 133…).

What this screen does

  • Opens the selected asset/record so you can access its configuration settings.

Screen controls

  • Record row / record ID: Opens the selected item in the Inspector drawer/panel

Click on 133…

Step 3: Open Configuration

In the Inspector drawer/panel, click Configuration.

What this screen does

  • Opens the asset configuration area where counters and other asset-level settings can be managed.

Screen controls

  • Configuration: Opens configuration options for the selected asset

Click on Configuration

Step 4: Open Counters

Click Counters.

What this screen does

  • Opens the Custom Counter mapping area for the asset.

  • This is where you assign available custom counters to Counter 1, Counter 2, and Counter 3 (up to three total).

Screen controls

  • Counters: Opens the Custom Counter section

Click on Counters

Step 5: Click Edit

Click Edit to make changes to the counter mapping.

What this screen does

  • Enables editing of the counter fields so you can assign or change the mapped counters.

Screen controls

  • Edit: Unlocks the mapping fields for update

Click on Edit

Step 6: Select the Custom Counter(s) and click Save

Use the dropdown(s) to select the required Custom Counter profile(s), then click Save.

You can map:

  • Counter 1

  • Counter 2

  • Counter 3

(Up to three counters per asset.)

What this screen does

  • Saves the counter mapping to the asset so Perspio can display and track those values.

Screen controls

  • Counter dropdown(s): Select from available Custom Counter profiles in the tenant

  • Save: Confirms and applies the mapping changes

Select up to three counters on the dropdown and click Save. Also, do the same steps to calibrate the custom counter, ensuring they increment correctly,

Important: Calibrate the Counter Value After Mapping

After applying the Custom Counter to the asset, it is important to calibrate the counter value (set the correct starting/baseline value) so the counter increments correctly from the right point.

If the value is not calibrated, the counter may:

  • Start from an incorrect number

  • Appear to jump unexpectedly

  • Cause incorrect servicing or reporting thresholds

Perspio’s Custom Counter documentation explains that counter values can be edited and saved (in hours) and are used in reporting/analytics.
The related counter profile article also shows calibration as part of the asset setup flow.

Calibration note

  • Depending on your Perspio tenant/version, this may appear as:

    • Configuration > Calibration, or

    • The Custom Counter Values section in the counter configuration area.

Troubleshooting

The counter I need is not in the dropdown

  • The Custom Counter profile may not exist yet

  • Confirm it has been created in Admin > Profiles first

  • If needed, ask your Perspio administrator to create the counter profile before returning to the asset

I can’t edit the counters

  • Confirm you have edit permission for the asset configuration

  • Make sure you clicked Edit before attempting to change the dropdown values

  • Refresh the page and reopen the asset if the form is not responsive

The counter is mapped but not incrementing correctly

  • Calibrate the counter value after mapping (set the correct starting value)

  • Confirm the asset is receiving the correct source data (telemetry/ERP/form input, depending on your setup)

  • Recheck the mapped profile selection and save again if needed

Notes

  • Perspio supports up to three Custom Counters per asset.

  • Custom Counter values may be sourced from telemetry devices, ERP integrations, or inspection forms depending on your configuration.

  • Changes to mappings and values apply immediately and can affect reporting and analytics outputs.
