Add a Comment to an Asset

Learn how to add a comment to an Inspector record in Perspio and confirm it appears in the comment thread.

Overview

This article explains how to add a comment to a record in the Perspio Inspector module.

Comments are useful for recording updates, service notes, status changes, or handover information against a specific Inspector record so the activity is visible to other users.


Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure:

  • You are logged in to Perspio

  • You have access to the Inspector module

  • You have permission to view and update the relevant Inspector record

  • You know which Inspector record needs the comment


How to Add a Comment in Perspio Inspector

Step 1: Open the Inspector module

From the Perspio main navigation, click Inspector.

What this screen does

  • Opens the Inspector workspace where records are listed and managed.

Screen controls

  • Inspector (menu item): Opens the Inspector module

  • Depending on your tenant setup, you may also see search and filter controls

Click on Inspector


Step 2: Open the relevant Inspector record

Click the Inspector record you want to update (example shown: 133…).

What this screen does

  • Opens the selected record so you can view details and interact with comments and other record activity.

Screen controls

  • Record row / record ID: Opens the selected Inspector record

  • The record usually opens in a drawer/panel on the side of the screen

Step 3: Open the comments panel/thread

In the Inspector record drawer, click the comments indicator/control (example shown as 1, which typically reflects the current comment count).

What this screen does

  • Opens the comment thread for the selected Inspector record.

Screen controls

  • Comments icon / comment count badge (e.g., 1): Opens the comment thread

  • The number usually indicates how many comments already exist on the record

Usability note

  • If the record has no comments yet, this value may be 0 (or a different comment icon may be shown depending on your layout/version).




Step 4: Click into the comment input field

Click Add a comment... in the comment panel.

What this screen does

  • Activates the comment input box so you can type a new comment.

Screen controls

  • Add a comment... field: Text input area for your note or update

Usability note

  • Use clear, concise comments so other users can quickly understand the update.

Click on Add a comment...


Step 5: Enter your comment and click Add Comment

Type your comment in the input field, then click Add Comment.

What this screen does

  • Saves your comment to the Inspector record and posts it in the comment thread.

Screen controls

  • Comment text field: Where you enter your note

  • Add Comment: Posts the comment to the record thread

  • This is a comment. Servicing completed. (as shown in the Tango example)




Step 6: Confirm the comment appears in the thread

After posting, confirm your comment appears in the comments panel/thread.

What to check

  • The comment text is visible in the thread

  • It is attached to the correct Inspector record

  • The thread updates to reflect the new comment

  • Comment thread/list: Displays previously added and newly posted comments

Troubleshooting

I cannot see the comments option

  • Confirm the record drawer is open

  • Check whether your user role has WRITE permission for the Asset Inspector

  • Try refreshing the page and reopening the record

The Add Comment button does not work

  • Confirm text has been entered in the comment field

  • Check your internet connection

  • Refresh and try posting the comment again

My comment does not appear after posting

  • Reopen the comments panel/thread

  • Refresh the Inspector record

  • Confirm you posted the comment to the correct record

  • Check if another user or process updated the record at the same time


Notes

  • Comments are attached to the specific Inspector record you opened

  • Use comments for audit-friendly updates such as service completion notes, follow-up actions, or internal handover information

  • If you need to update a different record, repeat the same process on that record
