Activity Summary Report
Quickly review high-level movement patterns and utilisation statistics across your fleet.
Overview
The Activity Summary report offers a top-level view of asset movement within a selected period, aggregating trip and distance data per asset. Unlike the Activity Detailed report, which lists individual trips line by line, the Summary groups all trip-related metrics for each asset into a single row—ideal for fast operational overviews, fleet-wide audits, and identifying under-utilised or inactive units.
This report is especially helpful when tracking fleet performance across multiple assets, identifying usage trends, or preparing high-level reporting for stakeholders.
Each row in the report corresponds to one asset and aggregates all recorded driving trips within the selected timeframe.
Report Structure
The generated report includes the following data columns:
Column Name | Description |
---|---|
Asset ID | The unique internal identifier of the asset within Perspio. |
Asset Name | The friendly name given to the asset (e.g., vehicle nickname or unit number). |
Number of Trips | The total number of driving sessions detected by the telemetry device over the selected timeframe. Helps indicate the frequency of use. |
Unique Days | Number of distinct days the asset was active (i.e., performed at least one trip). Useful to identify regular vs. occasional use. |
Number of Events | The total number of ignition/movement-related events recorded by the telemetry device. Can help reflect asset usage intensity. |
Total Distance (km) | The sum of distances covered during all trips, calculated via GPS data. Useful for wear and tear estimations, cost recovery, and maintenance planning. |
Total Duration | Combined active trip time across the reporting window. Useful for workload and operational duration assessments. |
At the bottom of the report, a generation timestamp indicates when the report was created, along with the local time zone for clarity.
How to Generate the Report
-
Navigate to Reports → Asset Telemetry → Activity Summary.
-
Select the Scope (Relative or Range) and define the Time Period (e.g., Today, This Month, or Custom Dates).
-
Use the Assets dropdown to choose all or specific assets for inclusion.
-
Optionally enable Show Assets with No Activity to include idle assets in the results.
-
Click Run Report.
-
The report is displayed in a table and can be exported to PDF, PDF/A, XLSX or CSV.
Applicability and Use Cases
The Activity Summary report is designed to support strategic and operational decision-making across fleets and equipment-heavy environments. Common use cases include:
1. Fleet Activity Snapshot
Get a bird’s-eye view of how many trips each asset completed in a period, how often they were in use, and how far they travelled.
2. Under-Utilisation Detection
Assets showing zero trips, short durations, or very low distance totals can be flagged for further investigation, redeployment, or decommissioning.
3. Maintenance Planning
Use distance and duration metrics to assess service intervals, align with manufacturer recommendations, or schedule preventative maintenance.
4. Performance Benchmarking
Compare similar assets (e.g., trucks, generators, trailers) across different regions or teams to identify overuse or inefficiency.
5. Stakeholder Reporting
Summarise operational coverage in a digestible format for internal or external reporting, without needing to review granular trip data.
Interpreting the Data
-
Zero trips with non-zero event count: The asset may have been powered but stationary, or experienced false movement triggers.
-
High number of unique days: Suggests the asset is in near-daily use and mission-critical.
-
Short total duration: Indicates light or occasional use, possibly a backup or idle asset.
-
Missing assets: May be filtered out due to Security Group permissions or archiving status. Consider reviewing the "Show Assets with No Activity" toggle.
Summary
The Activity Summary report is an essential tool for operational oversight, asset planning, and performance analysis. By consolidating trip, distance, and duration information into a single-row-per-asset format, it enables faster decision-making and highlights key trends across the fleet—without getting lost in the details.
